Compaq is back! Legendary PC brand now appears on a massive 12.6-inch Android tablet with an 11,000mAh battery

Compaq, one of the defining PC brands of the 1990s, is once again appearing on consumer electronics, although not quite in the way nostalgic PC users might expect. Its latest product is the Compaq QTab Ultra 12.6, a huge Android tablet packing an AMOLED display, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and an 11,000mAh battery.

Compaq was acquired by HP in 2002, with the famous branding gradually disappearing from the PC market during the following decade. In recent years, however, the name has been revived through licensing agreements, primarily for affordable electronics sold in emerging markets. We’ve already seen Compaq-branded smartphones such as the Q3 and Q6, and now the company is going much bigger.

The Compaq QTab Ultra 12.6 is built around a 12.6-inch InCell AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. Its size puts it firmly into productivity-tablet territory, with Compaq targeting media consumption, studying, document editing and drawing.

There’s plenty of memory as well, with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. A microSD slot supports cards of up to 2TB, which is increasingly unusual on modern tablets. Curiously, one important specification is missing: Compaq doesn’t reveal which chipset powers the device. Camera specifications are also absent from the current listing.

Power comes from a sizeable 11,000mAh battery, although charging is limited to just 18W. Compaq claims around six hours of continuous use and up to 500 hours on standby. The tablet runs Android 15 and offers 5GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and USB-C connectivity with OTG support.

Compaq is also making the package surprisingly complete. A stylus and protective case are included in the box, alongside the charger and USB cable, while users can add an external keyboard to turn the tablet into something resembling a lightweight laptop.

For now, the QTab Ultra 12.6 is listed in Mexico at MXN 8,499, or roughly $503. There is no information regarding a wider international launch yet.

It’s certainly an unusual comeback for a name many people still associate with beige desktop PCs and chunky laptops. In 2026, though, Compaq apparently means a 12.6-inch AMOLED Android tablet with a battery larger than those found in most current flagships.
